Wages








Annual across-the-board wage increases of 5% in 2025, 4% in 2026, and 3% [or 2% pending state budget cuts] in 2027, and 2% in 2028 and 2029, totaling 16% over the course of the contract.

Expedited Minimum Wage Increase: Hourly pay will increase to $25 an hour by July 1, 2025, for 7,378 AFSCME-represented UC employees.

Step Increases: Step increases for eligible employees in years two to five (2026-2029). There will be two steps after reclassification instead of the current one step.

Health Care Premium Credits

UC has proposed healthcare premium reductions of up to $125 per month to help reduce healthcare costs for those who elect Kaiser HMO or UC Blue and Gold HMO. If accepted, many AFSCME-represented UC employees will have access to $0 health care premiums.

Work-Life Balance

Expanded vacation and sick leave. Added Juneteenth as a paid federal holiday.

AFSCME represented units at UC

The American Federation of State, Municipal and County Employees (AFSCME) union has two bargaining units representing 37,481 patient care technical and service employees. 

The Patient Care Technical Unit (EX) is a systemwide bargaining unit of employees engaged primarily in rendering patient support services at UC’s Medical Centers and in fewer numbers on UC’s campuses.

The Service Unit (SX) is a systemwide bargaining unit of non-supervisory employees who provide vital custodial, transportation, and related support services.
